La Gorce Residence
The traditional two-story vernacular home parti is reinterpreted to create a house responsive to the site, capture prevailing breezes, and shade openings. By shifting the ground floor volume about the stair, the plan exposes a covered patio on the ground floor and a large open roof terrace on the second floor affording views over the La Gorce Golf Course. The roof is inverted, flat-side up, the sloped portion forming the soffits, and broad overhangs protect the openings. The second floor serves as the private portion of the home and is clad in operable louvers to afford maximum control of light, breezes, and privacy.
